Shopping goes OpenAI! The Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) just launched yesterday and Productsup has already implemented the OpenAI Product Feed needed. ACP is an open standard that lets AI agents, users, and merchants complete purchases seamlessly inside conversations (e.g. in ChatGPT). Think of it as the “checkout plumbing” that makes instant, trusted, in-chat shopping possible.
🔑 Why it matters: ✅ Gives merchants a new sales channel — without giving up control over pricing, fulfillment, or support. ✅ Built on principles of interoperability, trust, and security, with payments powered by partners like Stripe. ✅ Open to the broader ecosystem — it’s not just a ChatGPT feature, but a protocol any agent or merchant can adopt.
🛠 For merchants: ✅ You can integrate ACP with your existing commerce stack. ✅ If you use Stripe, enabling it may be as simple as a one-line change. ✅ Non-Stripe setups can use the Delegated Payment spec. ✅ Merchants remain the merchant of record — you keep full ownership of your customer relationships.
🌍 Today, ACP powers Instant Checkout in ChatGPT (starting with U.S. Etsy merchants and Shopify coming soon).
Some interesting things I found in the Feed spec: 🧐 The enable_checkout attribute (yes,no) could give a hint that OpenAI might also offer product promotion options in the future without the requirement for a merchant to offer a full checkout experience (e.g. product ads) 🧐 enable_search attribute lets you deliberately exclude products from OpenAI search
The participation in the program is currently only available in North America and merchants need to apply with OpenAI at this point of time to get whitelisted.
Curious about your thoughts. As a merchant would you allow checkout from OpenAI Chat or would you prefer customers to transact on your site?
