šŸšØOpenAI is launching ads!

ā€¦at least, thatā€™s what their recent hiring suggests. Rumor has it that OpenAI CEO of Applications Fidji Simo has been meeting with potential candidates (including former Facebook colleagues) for a role overseeing monetization efforts, including ads in ChatGPT.

In the push for revenue, it makes a lot of sense for OpenAI to tap into the advertising ecosystem:

In 2024:

šŸ’ø Google generated $264.59 billion in ad revenue šŸ’ø Meta generated $160 billion in ad revenue šŸ’ø Amazon generated $56.21 billion in ad revenue

OpenAI has also reported plans to add "free user monetization" (see chart below). First revenues for this are showing up in 2026 which can give a hint on OpenAIs timeline for ads.

I personally canā€™t wait for OpenAIā€™s platform to become available to advertisers. Would you add your credit card to their ad platform?
