I am a big fan of Walt Disney. The entrepreneur Walt Disney. I think he was something like a Steve Jobs of his time. A great innovator and business man. Today Disney announced that they will make a 💰 $1B equity investment in OpenAI.
What this means:
✨ Fans will be able to create and share short, AI-generated social videos inspired by more than 200 Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars characters
📺 Selected Sora videos will be available to stream on Disney+ (challenge accepted!)
🤝 Disney becomes a major OpenAI customer, using its APIs and deploying ChatGPT internally
💡 A shared commitment to human-centered, responsible AI that protects creators, users, and IP (we'll see about that...)
Disney always innovated:
- Synchronized sound in animation (e.g. Steamboat Willie) - Technicolor cartoons - Multiplane camera. Added depth and realism by filming multiple layers of artwork at different distances - Character-driven storytelling. Made animated characters emotionally engaging, not just comedic
Etc.
I am curious to see how Disney content will change having AI in their hands.
To everyone who does not like this. Let it go ;)
