Who would have thought... ChatGPT sources 83% of its carousel products from Google Shopping via shopping query fan-outs 😇

A new study of over 43,000 ChatGPT carousel products has revealed that ChatGPT is sourcing 83% of its product carousels directly from Google Shopping's organic top 40 results. 🛒🤖

Some findings:

🔹 Google > Bing: While 83% of ChatGPT's carousel products were strong matches with Google Shopping, only 11% matched Bing Shopping

🔹 Rankings Matter: 60% of the exact product matches came specifically from the Top 10 organic Google Shopping results. The higher your product ranks organically on Google, the earlier it appears in ChatGPT's carousel

🔹 Distinct Search Behaviors: ChatGPT uses unique "shopping query fan-outs" to retrieve structured product listings. This is a completely separate backend process from how it fetches contextual text to write conversational answers

Long story short... nothing new in ecommerce wonderland. You have to win on Google first before anything else.
